Gas Saving Myths Exposed
There are a number of myths around about the most gas saving ways to run your car.
Let’s have a look at some of them:
Gas Saving myth # 1: Buy your gas on a Wednesday!
The idea here being that prices will have cooled off from the weekend and so you’ll get the savings by waiting. While prices do tend to be slightly higher on the weekend, in fact no day mid-week is better than any other.
You would be far better served using a site like gasbuddy.com to find the cheapest gas station in your area and shop there.
Gas Saving Myth # 2: Don’t use your A/C!
Air-conditioning guzzles gas right? Yes and no. Having the air-con on does use more gas but when travelling at higher speeds having the window open and the A/C off is actually worse.
Around town and short journeys, open a window, feel the breeze in your hair and keep the air-con off for some extra savings.
Gas Saving Myth # 3: Build up speed and let the car coast!
If your foot is off the gas, you can’t be using any fuel. That’s the theory behind this one. So you build up your speed rapidly and then coast for as long as possible without using the gas pedal. Therefore, saving gas!
Wrong!
Driving erratically with rapid acceleration and jerks and starts uses a lot more gas.
Follow the speed limits, use the gears correctly and drive smoothly and you will get great savings in fuel economy.
It’s also a less stressful way of travelling!
